Group Development of Ideas
Key Points:
- Could everything be open plan by using windows as dividers
- Mirrors could be placed on the wall to increase the sense of space and light
- Different colours could be used for each of the courses
- Stained glass could be both physical or projections to create and enhance light within the building
- Colour could be introduced through plants
- Each course could have their own wayfinding system with a nature theme
- Arts and Crafts colours could be used and involve the gold used on the new building
- Elements of the building could change to avoid people becoming used to their surroundings e.g. changing wall art, rotating lighting which creates different effects all the time.
- Arts and Crafts patterns could be used on tiles for room numbers in a more contemporary way
- LEDS or Neon lights could be used to create wayfinding trees reflecting the natural element within Arts and Crafts. The branches would then point people in the right direction and the length would dictate how far the destination s away from the tree.
Key Points we picked out to develop:
- We would continue with the Arts and Crafts element as this had a strong research basis and had the strongest tie to the university itself.
- Stained glass would be used to reflect materials used in the Arts and Crafts decor and enhance the current windows. Natural designs would appear on tiles again reflecting the decor and the Arts and Crafts movements focus on nature, whilst also making the wayfinding much clearer through colour coding. A wayfinding tree would be used to reflect the natural aspect of the Arts and Crafts movement whilst emphasisng the neon lights used in the current building.
