Guest Speaker Village Bookstore 

They wanted to to create a place to allow people to interact an engage with zines etc. They wanted to bring work in from outside Leeds and allow exposure for Leeds artists and create a level playing field for both. A zine can showcase work in a simple way.

Self Publishing 
- is more accepting
- in the age of the internet it is a way of getting work seen easily 
- a zine encourages active participation because the viewer is focused on their work
- it is a physical output which is permanent
- different applications include type specimens, books about an interest or subject 

What we look for
- all elements of the object should say something about the content the book itself has got to portray what it is about 
- the concept of the book and how it is communicated needs a purpose

Examples

- Funny Money - The format of the design looks like money 
- Matthew Connors Fire in Ciaro - The images increase in increments each time so it looks like the images are zooming in. The book is bound backwards so the perspective is not always right.
- This is the Same Ocean - The book isn't printed the same all the way through using different stocks
- Surface Phenomena - The images are printed in different ways so their is a loss of perspective as the images are turned
