OUGD502 - Studio Brief 1 - Guest Speaker - Jack Grafton form Wolf Olinns

Jack Grafton from Wolf Olinns

Jack did a foundation at Leeds College of Art where he found that it was important to have a strong concept. Went to Edinburgh College of Art for his degree. There is a need to pursue things that you have an interest in. He was interested in taking clean European design and giving meaning to it. He created Hindsight and MAD Magazine at the end of his degree which used heavy type and grid influences, he used this to get an internship, . He liked having a finished thing and a tangible end point.

Went to New York to work at Studio Lin and Colophon Foundry for the experience as there are lots of different styles there. He did an internship at Browns then worked at Spin and Unit Editions in London.

The University of the Arts identity gave the client the tools to create their own identity by using a stencil which is a raw form. The logo was made from bars which meant the elements could then be used in different ways and to create different forms. This block language could then be used throughout the design and on all collateral.

He freelanced in London working on the premier league design, fashion labels, tinder logo etc

Started working at Wolff Olinns in London.
