OUGD502 - Studio Brief 1 - Another Studio

Another Studio

Research about Another Studio

Another Studio is based in London and creates a range of products for the desk, home and workplace.

Their products include stencils, page markers, pencil pots and mini models. Their practice combines craft with design through their use of materials and three dimensional design. Many of their projects start off with considering how something already existing such as a greeting card can be redefined into something new. Much of their work is inspired by origami and they use sheet material such as paper, metal and wood to create their three dimensional products.

Their process combines both handmade and machined elements, whist their use of materials leads to creative designs. Their work, particularly their model kits, is heavily influenced by the city and architecture. They regularly exhibit designs at London Design Week and also are commissioned to create bespoke work. They also have an open studio twice a year so people can look around.

What was interesting about Another Studio:

- Many of the designs take influence from nature and the environment which is something I enjoy also
- The use of materials to create three dimensional products shows how graphic design can be used to create more tangible outcomes

- The model making aspect of the designs is interesting as this shows how there can be a element of 'making' within graphic design.

- This type of design is something that would be kept and used and the functional and interactive element of the designs really appeal to me.
