Creative Report Development





Linking text boxes with a border creates a connection between information.




Using the grid to split the square in different ways means that images and text can form different shapes.




Placing questions down the side of the page will allow a




Using a modular grid with a large margin and gutters allows the square shape to be split in different ways. 



Using a strip of white on top of the image creates the impression that the image has been split in two. Two images could be used within the space or one could be divided. Adding further line would split the images into further shapes. Using the white lines creates continuation from the border around the images and allows the images to stand out more.  



The idea of existing 'between extremes' as said in the passage of Splits website, could be reflected through the use of two lines which reflect each end of the spectrum, with the line inbetween reflecting the 'inbetween'.







Separating the question from the answer creates a 'split' between information.




Putting the question and answer side by side creates a strip of information which splits the negative space.





Moving the question so that is central would reflect the positioning of two 'splits' in the image, one vertical and one horizontal.


Using a sans serif and serif typeface for the question and answer also visualises the idea of opposition within the contradiction definition.






Using the grid so that the text forms a wide horizontal strip and placing the question at the top of the page allows a wide split to form between the two. This however is not as defined as when split vertically. When there is a large passage of text this as to be split into columns to create a strip which makes the split between this and the tiles less prominent. Splitting a title from a smaller passage of text horizontally stands out more and is more obvious.  





To reflect the idea of contradictions which is mentioned in the passage, with contradition meaning -  'a combination of statements, ideas, or features which are opposed to one another' - it was considered that both right and left aligned text could be used together. Making the questions right aligned and body text left aligned creates this sense of opposition as they are reflections of one another. This also emphasises the gutter between the two pieces of information highlighting the 'split'.




Right aligning the body text and left aligning the question continues the idea of opposition within the definition of contradition found in the passage on Splits website. This form is quite interesting however the right alignment may make the design harder to read.


It was considered that the text could be turned on its side to create a more defined horizontal split. 



Stretching a passage of text over two pages creates a strip of text which splits the page horizontally in half.


Using the right and left aligned text when creating a horizontal divide perhaps looks a little odd.


Creating a wider vertical gap between the question and answer creates a more obvious split.
