6A2, 6B2 - OUGD602 - PPP - Creative in Residence Scheme

Creative in Residence Scheme

Throughout my practice this year I have had an interest in 3D making whether this be for exhibitions or in terms of product design. Towards the end of the year more of my projects such as my mini 'garden' planters and bird boxes, have become more product design based and I can see my practice developing more in this direction than normal graphic design. I have enjoyed experimenting with different processes to create these pieces and the use of material considerations in product design has been a new element of designing that I perhaps hadn't considered before as much. As my practice is starting to combine aspects of graphic design alongside product design this is something that could be developed further. Access to the workshops and experimenting with different processes and materials has been really important in me creating these more product design outcomes.

During my time in the workshops I have come across a number of different students on other courses who are Creatives in Residence at the university. This gives students access to the resources and workshops at the university for a 3 month period so that they can develop their practice or start to build a business. This scheme could be a great way for me to develop some product ranges to start a business and perhaps continue with products I have created this year and develop other ideas I have had from other projects. The use of the workshops would be really beneficial in me being able to experiment and learn new processes and skills and see which of these will be most important within my practice. This would allow me to identify resources that I could invest in for a workshop space in the future to make some of my products. Being in this environment would also allow me to test and develop products to get the finishes I want and to work out the best ways of producing them at a bigger scale.
