Guest Speakers - Dr Me

Dr Me

They didn't just want to go to London to the big Studios
Wanted to work with Mike Perry in New York
They said that you shouldn't be afraid to ask for internships as they did with Mike Perry
From this they learnt how to run a studio from this
You need to constantly tell people about yourself
The studio focuses mainly on collage and a combination with typography.

Most of their work is done by hand so more time is taken
Much of their work can be used for multiple things meaning they have double meanings and multiple applications
By doing things for small people this gives creative freedom and allows you to get your work out there
They suggest that if you've got feeling for a project then go for it
Collaborate as much as possible
Their biggest project was 365 days of collage which was a way of getting themselves out there in an affordable way through the use of found imagery. These were sent out as promotional items whilst also getting money for them.
If you do it for the love of it you'll get something out of it
Its best to use your own imagery or there could be copyright issues
They have recently released a boook called Cut That Out which explores collage artists

They work apart in Manchester and France but they are still able to collaborate through the internet
They work individually on their own designs (10 - 12 directions) for a client then the client chooses which one they like. Then both of them come together to produce the final thing.
- Make good stuff
- 'Collaborate' - by working with other people you will get skills that you don't know yourself
- See stuff
- 'be brave'
- 'Just ask'
- 'Don't follow trends'
They combine elements that speak to them, however each of them has their own way of doing things. Aesthetics is important for one but escapism and taking someone to a different world is important for the other.
By having a studio it creates a working space which allows you to remove yourself from that headspace when you leave and allows you to create interesting things.
