Nicky Place from Build
Opportunities can take you to different places
She wanted to become a children's book illustrator.
She worked for a games company which was later taken over by Sony, where she worked on pixel based games.
The games were physically acted out by people which were then digitalised into the game.
She worked on Playstation's game, wipeout which she did pen and ink washed storyboards.
She went travelling to get away from it and came back to set up Studio Build with Michael Place.
Between 2001 and 2006 they worked on setting the business up.
She primarily focuses on Art Direction which is a different kind of creative design and is not completely concerned with the graphic design side.
She aims to expand into more things and provide a more holistic service for branding businesses e.g. interiors to reflect branding
Projects:
- D&AD - stencils on glass
- Nokia - a typeface was created to reflect all languages. Pangrams were created for each language so that there was authenticity for each language.
- Animated shapes to make characters
